Dental Implants

Dental implants are an effective and long-lasting solution for replacing lost or damaged teeth. They are a popular choice because they offer a natural appearance and function like natural teeth.

A dental implant consists of three main components: the titanium implant, the abutment, and the crown. The titanium implant is a small metal structure that is inserted into the maxillary or mandibular bone, in the area where the tooth is missing. This implant acts as an artificial tooth root. Titanium is a biocompatible material that integrates with the bone through a process called osseointegration, providing a solid foundation for the artificial tooth.

After the implant is placed in the bone, a healing period is required, typically lasting three to six months, during which the bone fuses with the implant. During this time, temporary teeth or removable prostheses can be used to maintain function and aesthetics.

Once the dental implant has successfully integrated, the abutment is placed on top of it. The abutment is a metal or ceramic structure that connects to the implant and serves as support for the crown. The abutment provides a stable and sturdy base for the dental crown.

The crown is the visible part of the dental implant and is placed on the abutment. It is made of ceramic or porcelain to resemble a natural tooth in shape, size, and color. The crown is custom-made to fit the patient’s shape and bite, ensuring a perfect fit and aesthetic appearance.

Dental implants have several advantages compared to other tooth replacement options such as dentures or fixed bridges. Some of these advantages include:

advantage

Stability and Function:

Dental implants integrate with the bone, providing a solid and stable foundation. This allows for greater comfort when eating and speaking, as they do not move or slide like dentures.

advantage

Preservation of Bone:

When a tooth is lost, the bone in that area tends to lose density over time. Dental implants stimulate the bone and prevent its deterioration, helping to maintain facial structure and prevent bone loss.

advantage

Improvement of Aesthetics:

Dental implants are designed to look and feel like natural teeth. They provide an aesthetic appearance and restore the patient’s smile, enhancing confidence and self-esteem.

advantage

Long-Term Durability:

Dental implants are highly durable and can last a lifetime with proper care. Unlike traditional bridges, there is no need to grind down adjacent teeth to place a dental implant.

advantage

Improved Oral Health:

Dental implants do not require modification of adjacent teeth, which means that the natural dental structure is preserved. This facilitates better oral hygiene, as it is easier to access between the teeth for brushing and flossing.

important

It is important to note that not all patients are ideal candidates for dental implants. Oral health, bone density, and other factors must be carefully evaluated before the procedure. The dental esthetics specialists at ConexionMED can conduct a thorough evaluation and recommend the best treatment option for each patient.
